Knut Gilden Street Portraits
This started as an assignment at Knut Koivisto's workshop Portrait / Developmental Photography - Part 2 at Fotografiska in Stockholm this summer. When I said I love taking street portraits in all other cities than my home town Stockholm, Knut challenged me to do just that.
I received some simple restrictions. Just the same as he received when taking a Bruce Gilden workshop in Stockholm a few years ago:
- Go close and shoot straight at the face.
- The person must have a character.
It was way more challenging than I first realized and above all it was very hard to quit. It will be fun to follow this one through.
All pictures are shot after receiving consent. I do not approach homeless people or people that are exposed in any other for me obvious way.
I do also offer every person I shoot a printed copy of the portrait. I think it is a great way to give something back and the process of printing is a good editing exercise.
